The first snow has arrived! We know that your mindset must have already started to change. Here at Skitude, we have spent a lot of time preparing for this new, special season. So, we want to help you get started in the best way possible. Here are 5 useful tips for starting the season right.
1. The most important thing is you, so do some physical exercise.
Are you one of those people who has spent the entire summer lying in the sun? Well, now is a good time to get moving, don’t you think? If you want to enjoy your first ski day, we recommend that you do some sport every week.
Both skiing and snowboarding are sports that demand a good level of physical fitness. In order to avoid injury, don’t fall for the legend of Peter Pan, because you’ll end up getting hurt. There are lots of people who think they can do a sport with the same level of intensity as they used to, and then they hurt themselves within minutes.
What are we suggesting? Set aside 2 to 4 days per week to exercise, even if it’s only for 20 minutes, and your body will definitely notice a difference once the ski season begins. Sports like cycling, hiking, skating or gymnastics are ideal for sweating away the summer’s excesses and strengthening your entire body.

2. Upgrade your equipment
We recommend that you check your ski gear in good time, in case you need to buy any new items, such as a jacket, thermals, goggles or gloves. This can help you avoid any unforeseen difficulties on the first day you hit the snow.
Now is a great time to take advantage of the stock that a lot of brands have leftover from previous seasons. Don’t wait too long, because they sell out fast.
3. Get your equipment ready
This seems obvious, right? However, the fact is that the vast majority of skiers finish the season and put their skis away without first checking the state of their base and edges.
This is an area where the gurus of the ski world have their own special tricks. It’s a very important area that we need to always bear in mind, so that our equipment slides just as well on our first ski day as it did on our last.
Another important point that we want you to bear in mind; if you are one of those people that covered your skis with wax last season, we advise you to remove it as soon as possible.
Why? It has a counter-productive effect on the base. The fewer chemicals that come in contact with it, the better. An interesting fact that is worth considering… Do you know how much time a person who prepares skis for a professional ski racer can spend scraping one ski? 40 minutes – just on scraping! There is an explanation for this. In order for a ski to go faster, the structure has to be as clean as possible. So, if you cover your ski with wax, you’ll spend more time scraping it to make it go fast.
Therefore, our advice is to get started preparing your skis now, so that you can start the season right.

4. Check for offers on Season Passes
During the pre-season, all the ski resorts have offers on that are designed to attract new customers. If you had thought of getting a season pass for one specific resort this year, now is the time.
5. For those who are really keen…
Many resorts have already announced their opening dates. Why not take the opportunity to organise a little snow getaway in the Alps or the Pyrenees?
And if you want to be sure that your first ski day will be terrific, don’t hesitate to check the live webcams, weather forecasts and snow reports for your favourite resorts through their official app, or through the Skitude App, for free.
